How To Craft a Compelling About Me Page for Your Therapy Practice

Now that you understand the importance of a website, you crafted the perfect homepage  – and moved on to developing your “about me” page or section. Where to begin?! 


How do you write about yourself in a way that is compelling, empathetic, caring, and doesn’t make yourself feel *icky*?!



As a therapist, you know that building a strong therapeutic relationship with your clients is essential to their success in therapy. One of the first steps in building that relationship is crafting an effective "About Me" page on your therapy website. It's often one of the first pages a potential client will visit, and it's where they can learn more about you and what you offer as a therapist.  Your "About Me" page is an opportunity to introduce yourself to potential clients, build rapport, and convey your expertise and approach to therapy.  A solid about page will establish trust and credibility with your audience, and ultimately, attract more clients to your practice.

So, how do you craft the perfect about me page for your therapy practice?



  1. Be Authentic and Personal

    The first step in crafting an effective About Me page is to be authentic and personal. Your About Me page should give readers a sense of who you are as a person and what makes you unique as a therapist. Share your personal and professional experiences, as well as your values and philosophy as a therapist. This can help potential clients feel a sense of connection with you and help them determine if you are a good fit for their needs.

  2. Focus on your clients’ needs

    Your About Me page should focus on your clients' needs, rather than your own. This means framing your personal and professional experiences in a way that highlights how they can benefit your clients. For example, if you specialize in working with clients who have experienced trauma, you could mention how your own history has shaped your philosophy as a therapist – and this informs the trauma work that you do. 

    **But always remember, everything you do in marketing for your therapy practice is about YOUR CLIENTS. Not about you.  Even your about me section. 

  3. Use Clear and Accessible Language

    When crafting your About Me page, it's important to use clear and accessible language. Avoid using technical jargon or language that may be unfamiliar to your audience. Use language that is easy to understand and free of any unnecessary complexity. This can help potential clients feel more comfortable and confident in your ability to communicate with them effectively during therapy sessions.

  4. Focus on Your Specialty

    Your "About Me" page should make it clear what your specialty is and what type of clients you work with. This can help potential clients determine if you're the right fit for them. Use clear and concise language to describe your approach to therapy and what clients can expect from working with you.

  5. Share Your Credentials, Highlighted Trainings, and Certifications

    Your “About Me” page is a great place to show potential clients that they're working with a qualified professional. Make sure to include information about your education, certifications, and professional memberships. This can help instill confidence in potential clients and make them more likely to choose you as their therapist.

    Ethics note: be sure to always accurately reflect your experience. For example, if you are in training for EMDR, be sure to put “in process” if you list this certification. 

  6. Include a Call-to-Action

    All copywriting has a what?! That’s right! A CTA! Call-to-action. And your therapy about me page is no different. 

    Your CTA can be a simple invitation for potential clients to schedule a consultation, learn more about your services, sign up for your newsletter, or follow you on social media. Including a call to action is about converting! Turning website visitors into clients, growing your practice, and crushing your goals.



Writing about yourself does not have to feel slimy, sales-y, or pushy. Be authentic to who you are. Highlight your strengths and the benefits that you bring to those that work with you. This will naturally attract your ideal client and help you to build a successful therapy practice.
