Top 3 Therapy Marketing Moves to Boost Your Therapy Practice

Becoming a therapist is a journey, friends.

Not sure if anyone can relate. In grad school, they teach you things…some of these things are helpful, and we use them on the daily.

And then, there is a whole category of things they never taught you, such as how to:

  • Be a business owner

  • Open a private practice

  • Market yourself

  • Pick a niche

  • Attract clients in that niche

  • Use SEO to boost your business…

…and the list goes on.

I’m Ashley, and as a Mental Health Copywriter, SEO Specialist, and Therapist, I’ve seen both sides of the coin. I know what it’s like to reach the end of a full day with clients and feel like there’s nothing left to give to marketing your practice.

So today, let’s focus on getting super clear on who you are as a business owner and who your audience is.

If you do 3 things today to help market your private practice, do these!

Your Top 3 Marketing Moves Today

1. Get Clear on Your Business Identity

In talking with therapists over the years, I hear the overwhelm they carry when it comes to marketing:

  • Where to start

  • What to focus on

  • What strategy will produce the quickest results?

Is it an all-star website, is it SEO, is it an expertly written Psychology Today Profile?

As therapists, we help clients with communication all the time. In order for you to communicate clearly too, let’s get really clear on two things:

Who am I as a therapist & business owner?

  1. What are my core values and beliefs that I hold as I do my work?

  2. What are the strengths I bring to my work and to my clients?

  3. How do I want clients to feel and experience my therapy process from intake to final session?

Who is my audience?

  1. Do I already have a niche? What clients have I worked with in the past and are there patterns that I haven’t noticed?

  2. What are the pain points or challenges of these clients?

  3. Where is my audience hanging out? Social media? Psychology Today?

Once you’re clear on these identity questions, let’s find out where to go from there.

2. Do a Few Things Well

I know we all wish there was one “right” answer that would wave the magic wand and make clients start appearing. But at the end of the day, if it’s going to be a strategy that works for you over time, it needs to make sense for you

But, let’s be honest, it's super hard not to compare.

You see the amazing instagram business account your colleague has going on. The YouTube videos and the podcast episodes your grad school friend is producing.

The pressure of needing to do it all is very real

But I’m here to tell you, the ways that you choose to market your private practice just need to work for you

So, take 5-10 minutes and brainstorm:

  • Do you want your content showing up first in Google by working with an SEO specialist [me!]?

  • Do you want to be producing top-of-mind content for your clients with your blog?

  • Does an instagram account make sense for you? Is that where your audience is hanging out?

  • What feels like you could keep up with it over time?

  • What’s something you’d actually feel a little excited to sit down and spend a few hours on each Friday?

3. Get Support. You Don’t Have To Do It Alone.

We tell our clients this all the time and rarely extend the invitation to ourselves: we don’t have to do hard things without support! Having someone help you get clear on your niche, your audience, and your best strategy can go a long way.

I help therapists face the challenges of marketing their practice every day, and I’m always here if you need support.
